Sailing Between Juneau Alaska to Prince William Sound

Anybody out there done it?

I don't have charts yet, but I'm interested in input from those who've done it.

Thanks.

Re: Sailing Between Juneau Alaska to Prince William Sound

There was a group that went from seattle up that way last summer. Rumour has it the same leader is doing it again. Not sure how far they went up. I'll see if I can find the blog. search for "ruby slippers" altho it may turn up the seattle to oz and back a few years ago too. or both.........might be a link at marineservicenter dot com, as he owns that company.

Marty

this might get you started

Re: Sailing Between Juneau Alaska to Prince William Sound

we, just finished bringing our boat up from Orcas Island WA to Valdez. First summer we went from Orcas to Ketchikan, left the boat there for the winter (on the hard). This year we went from Ketchikan to Valdez, via Juneau. I could not recommend this trip enough! We bought our dream boat in WA, a 33' Pilothouse Saturna and brought it up. Now we're thinking of ways to do it again. My biggest recommendation is choose your weather windows, and give the big seas time to die down after a blow, even if it means waiting a couple more days. The places you'll be waiting are absolutely gorgeous, like Hoonah, Elfin cove, etc. so waiting is not a bad thing. We lost count of all the Whales we saw. And Orcas hunting next to our boat at our first anchorage in PWS (Port Etches). The whole trip was absolutely wonderful. We did get shook up a bit first 20 hours into the Gulf, kinda scary for us first timers, but it was nothing the boat couldn't handle. You can check out our blog at Sailblogs.com, boat name is Kobuk. Let me know if you have any questions. -Mike
