after launching

How long after putting the boat (fiber glass sailboat) does one have to wait to go out and sail it? The mechanic says 24 hours and our training officer says two weeks. The latter seems excessive.

Re: after launching

What was done to the boat that they are giving you this time frame. You have not provided enough information.

Re: after launching

Did you get this advice on April 1st by any chance? Seriously, wooden boats need some time to swell-up to stop leaks. O/W I can't imagine any repairs that would require waiting with the boat in the water.

Re: after launching

I found a little pill on the kitchen floor. It's round with a line across it.

Should I take it?

Re: after launching

You should only wait about as long as it takes the ice to chill the beer which, if you were a true sailor, would already be cold.

Re: after launching

I suppose the packing in a stuffing box might take a little while to swell up. Would it melt the wax if it was dry?

Re: after launching

Is it a wooden fiberglass boat by chance?
