I'm on a Mac Pro. Using VMWare fusion 3 the program doesn't get too far - I'd like to know if anyone's had any success running it usig VMWare Fusion 4?
I know the game.. But on VMWare... Yea... Good luck on that one.. I must say though the game itself can be very adictive when playing against others online
Well, I don't know if it works on VMWare 4 because there's no way I can test it without overwriting my VMWare 3 installation (no point buying an upgrade if it turns out that it doesn't help).
On the other hand, I do now have it running under the demo version of the latest parallels
It's astonishing that they can simulate sailing that well. As a beginner to sailing I'm curious to see if it'll help me gain a better understanding of the essentials of boat handling while I wait for the good weather to arrive....
The fact that you can set your weather conditions, tide and direction let alone wind and weather makes it great, but I have noticed a few quirks that would never happen in real life. Mainly like the spin-sail.. Your not lifting that in 60 Mile and hour winds on a 36 footer with 1 crew member, neva gona happen.. Or my favorite the 30 footer in 30+ foot waves doing 17knots directly into them and not losing speed
But as a dinghy sailor who's still learning the basics, it is realistic enough for me to get an understanding of how the various adjustments (sheets, vang, etc.) affect performance and handling?
Just to be clear, I don't expect that sailing on a simulator to in any way replace time on the water. However, I would like to understand tuning the adjustments will affect a boat....

P.S. I just tried VMWare 4. It worked better, but there were several graphical glitches that stopped gameplay. I'm now trying to downgrade back to VMWare 3.
So, any Mac users out there who wish to try Sail Simulator would be best served running Windows under Parallels.
Actually I can't put bootcamp on my machine since the boot disk is RAID. In any case, I'd hate to have to keep shutting down the Mac just to run the simulator.
I discovered however that I could "migrate" to Parallels from VMWare for a very low price (lower than upgrading VMWare to version 4), so that's what I've done.
Now I can continue to capsize uncontrollably whenever I get bored
I had never heard of this game but I know what I'm doing when I get home from work. thanks!
