Re: Need help finding perfect boat!
One of the respondents emailed me in private for more information, and he suggested that yes, a powerboat is the optimal solution, but say there was no oil, and sailing was the only choice. It caused me to think a little harder on a sailboat as a solution. Even though not optimal, it still is certainly viable for you, properly setup.
I'm not suggesting a catamaran. I suggested a "catboat"....little workhorse of a sailboat used for decades by fisherman. They have small ones with large, open cockpits, to medium sized boats with cuddy cabins and large, open cockpits. They're rock solid, great sailors (not the fastest boats) and very reliable under a myriad of conditions. There's a very good reason(s) they were so popular with Cape Cod fishermen for so many years. If you're set on a "working" sailboat, a little catboat, properly outfitted, would serve you well.
Finding one in your price range though, may be a bit tough unless you find a little gem in need of alot of TLC...so the investment would be time, labor, and a few dozen trips to Walmart, Home Depot and Pep Boys. As many of them there are though....gotta be one somewhere for you.
