BVI Waypoints

I have created a .gpx file of BVI waypoints that I am happy to share as long as I can find a couple of volunteers to check it first.

I left my handheld GPS without power over the winter and lost all the waypoints that I had accumulated. I was going to download a set of BVI waypoints from Fine Edge but it doesn’t look like they offer them anymore – so I keyed them into EasyGPS and uploaded them to my handheld. They correspond to the waypoints on the Fine Edge map (as provided by Conch) and probably the guide as well but as I use the Nancy & Simon Scott Cruising Guide, I can’t be sure. I’m happy to make them generally available once they have been checked and corrected.

If you are prepared to do this I will email the file to you and I can also scan the list from the map if you need it. There are 144 waypoints on the file.

Warning, I am going to insert a couple of deliberate errors to make sure it has been checked properly.

Let me know when you correct them and then maybe I will be interested. Til then, I dont want to put waypoints I know are wrong on any gps or computer I own.

Thanks. I’ve had the BVIpirate list saved for some time although I have never converted it to .gpx or loaded it.

I like the Fine Edge waypoints because they are a comprehensive set that correspond to routes on their map and make route planning easy. I have used them a lot but only entered in the ones I planned to use that day – having them all downloaded will save time and effort.

Let’s face it, you don’t really need GPS in the BVI, but I like to have the route entered to make it easy to check where I am, at a glance. I thought others might like to have them as well but I didn’t want to risk someone using them unless they had been thoroughly checked. If no one wants to, that’s fine, I’ll just double check them against the chart as I use them.

That's the whole point of asking for someone to check them. The deliberate errors are to make sure thay are actually checked. I guess you'll just wait until someone else does the work for you. I suppose that I shouldn't be suprised at that attitude.
