Thoughts on the Olson 30?

It has a good phrf rating, is supposedly offshore capable (even like a Bermuda race?), good ballast to displacement ratio yet a very light boat, supposedly able to plane under a kite, looks like a blast!

Downsides: interior looks tight for a cruiser (I guess it's more of a racer), doesn't look like much headroom (what is its exact headroom?), although I kind of like the sparse raciness of the cabin

The O30 is definitely a racer-cruiser with the emphasis on the racing end of things. I wouldn't consider it offshore capable, though a guess you can go offshore in almost anything with enough preparation. It's really designed for PHRF racing with the ability for a couple to cruise for weekends and maybe a week or two.

It seems like a pretty common boat to be used on the single handed transpac. That is def an offshore race, though not known for having rough conditions, which is why I wonder about the boat's ability to do the Bermuda race.

Pretty sure its too small to meet the Bemuda Race criteria. Seem to remember that about 35 foot is the minimum. Perhaps someone with some better knowledge of the requirements will chime in. The weather on the way to Bermuda can get pretty nasty. I wouldn't want to be in an O30 if the weather turns.
