Solar panel sails

I have just seen a post on Facebook featuring a solar powered tent.

Orange unveils solar concept tent at Glastonbury | Green Tech - CNET News

I wondered how far away we are from seeing solar panel sails!
I did a quick search and though the fabric is seemingly still at the R&D stage we may very well be able to have sails which are also solar panels!!!

That begs the questions, how much power will they be able to produce given the size of a main sail???

Just thought I would share this little find and see what peoples thoughts are...

We may be a few years away from seeing it yet but I think the idea is wonderful!

bit more info? ~ click here

Re: Solar panel sails

Kind of like the ultrasonic dishwasher/sink, or many of the other brilliant things that are past the R&D stage even, and possible to make. I don't see it happening anytime soon. Nature of the market unfortunately.
Outside of boats, they had flexible e-paper(like the kindle but collapsible) 5 years ago, it almost made it to market then even, so your cellphone would open up to that. Technology doesn't change at the pace of innovation unfortunately.
