Lessons for VA beach

I would say these people know what they are doing! (it's a long video)

Re: Lessons for VA beach

Considering the number of people involved, the small boats to help pull the sailboat off the beach and the equipment....put all that to work in VA. beach, and it was probably cheaper to cut the boat up and haul it away. If you recall, the boat owner was pretty much flat broke, and I'm guessing had no or little insurance.

I don't think the EPA would have allowed that.

Lessons for VA beach

Can't imagine the environmental damage that would be cried about if a track hoe did that on one of our beaches! Also, I hope they gave those big rigs a good bath after all that salt water exposure, ha!

You'd have to be a complete idiot to complain about that equipment damaging the environment - the sand would be smooth again after one tide change.

The vid sure was an object lesson in why one doesn't want to get themselves beached in a big boat though.

I, myself, personally intend to continue being outspoken and opinionated, intolerant of all fanatics, fools and ignoramuses, deeply suspicious of all those who have "found the answer" and on my bad days, downright rude.

Re: Lessons for VA beach

Very cool video. The heavy equipment operators really seemed to know what they were doing. I was surprised at the tow dinghies running in reverse rather than in forward with a tow bridle. The guy tugging on the halyard to heel the boat didn't seem very effective.

All in all a great exercise and definitely a better performance than VA Bch offered. It would be interesting to compare funds expenditure.
