Re: do I want this boat?

Hey,

It sounds like a no lose proposition. But, be careful for the downsides:
  • You can get hooked on sailing
  • You will start spending a lot of time sailing
  • You will lose interest in other activities (golf, home maintenance, etc.)
  • You will start spending a lot $ on sailing gear (I need a new spinnaker
  • You will want a bigger / newer / faster / better boat
  • You will start looking for different places to sail, and may even have to move

So be careful before getting that boat!

Take care,
Barry

If you like to tinker and have a few extra bucks, then go for it and enjoy your hard work with a relaxing sunset cruise when she's ship shape and ready to go

Re: do I want this boat?

Thanks guys for the encouragement! My brother was able to go out and look at the boat today and sent me some pics I'd asked for of specific areas of the boat. She's dirty, but otherwise looks sound. I'll be out to check her over hopefully next weekend.

A 1974, she's a reasonably early one with a swing keel and a kick up rudder. She has a main, but the jib is missing apparently. She looks fairly complete otherwise, a good starter project. Start out slow, fix what is a must, then start working on all the rest as time and funds allow.

I'm already grinning at the prospect and I haven't even gotten dirty working on her yet.
