ASA 101 starts tomorrow!

Mr. cthoops and I are heading up to Barrington, RI tonight to start our ASA 101 course tomorrow. I haven't been able to think about anything else. Three straight days of sailing! Whoo-hoo! This will be my first time on a 20', using a jib, winches, etc. It's going to be great!

Of course the weather forecast is a bit less-than-optimal, but what the heck. We weren't planning on being solely fair-weather sailors anyway.

Just wanted to share my excitement.

Re: ASA 101 starts tomorrow!

Nice! My wife and I did our US Sailing basic keelboat course a couple weekends ago in Boston. Probably about 16 hours on the water. It was awesome. On the drive home, I would turn the car and unconsciously be waiting for the boom to swing! (don't worry, it didn't)

I've been wanting to take the course also. After spending the last 20yrs in school, this sounds like a fun class to be in.

Good luck and don't worry about getting "everything" right. That will come with experience. Read the book and the written test should be a snap. Practice your knots in the evening and most of all, HAVE FUN!

Good luck and welcome to the Asylum known as Sailing!

Go have a wonderful time!

I'm sure no matter what the weather does, you'll manage to learn quite a lot.

Thanks! We have our last community sailing class tomorrow on a 9' Dyer Dhow (should be interesting after the last few days on the 20'), and we're aiming to get out once a week for the rest of the season. We'll be going through withdrawal once the off-season rolls around.
