Re: Who went Sailing on Saturday? "Pictures"

We had a nice sail Saturday with unexpected sunshine, but lightish winds. Each year we auction a 'day on the water' as a fund raiser for my wife's preschool. We had two couples as guests, none experienced sailors.

They seemed a thirsty bunch, but all went well. We beat slowly out of English Bay, and managed to get the A sail up for a nice quick reach to our planned anchorage for a late lunch. It turned calm so we motored back in the evening.

Part way back a guest came out or the head, after which it was thoroughly plugged. The head had been well used by these four, and of course I thought it was something flushed by them unknowingly.. Long (smelly) story short as it turns out one of the discharge hoses had slowly been plugging, and the extra usage put it over the top.

This was actually good news, as we were in port and able to fix it - had we not done this particular daytrip, we'd have likely ended up bunged up within days of our summer cruise - who knows where!

A great weekend for us, a not- so-great weekend for others.

No sailing Saturday, does preparing to leave count? Time for a new Windex and to check the rigging. Shoving off tomorrow for Barkley Sound, Hot Springs Cove, etc on the west side of Vancouver Is.

Naw, we want to go to an old homestead garden (Cougar Annie- book) in Hesquiat Hbr. Need to be back to our island before the 1st of July, just a short trip, then Desolation later in July. Hope to cross paths with you.

here was our trip:

I live in Charleston and on saturday my wife and I did go sailing in the Stono River (which separates James Island from Johns Island and then lets out into the Atlantic between Folly and Kiawah. We have a capri 14.2 It was a great day, and the wind was very nice. We almost capsized when I let my wife hold the tiller extension while I tightened up the job halyard.

There were 4 or 5 other sailboats. Tons of power boats. It was a zoo near the boat launch (I trailer it with my Jetta). So many power boaters. It was a real challenge being in that holding pattern with no engine. I wish Charleston county would add some more boat ramps, especially some that might let you launch right into Charleston harbor. I'm lucky to have one a few blocks from my house (Elliott cut) but the current can be really bad so I can only use that one during slack water.

I live over in North Beaufort County. Looks like beaufort has 25 while Charleston County only has 19 while your Population is 1/3 more? I know yall have more money over there. hahaha

I sail the 30 FT C&C MK1 out of the Port Royal marina. So I only need the ramps when i'a going fishing or to the sandbar at low tide for a cookout.

Hey, I ment to ask, is there a place to anchor up at St.Phillips and spend the weekend?? I know it belongs to Ted, but I have a 5, foot keel and not sure if ther'es a place to set the hook. I think it would make a great camping spot if it would work.? thanks for your advice.
Curtis.
