tiller-pilot

is your tiller pilot anchor point really just a peice of wood and a bottle or water?

Fixed

Whew! We got if fixed and are under way. There's a marine ship just up from the docks that wielded it up in a jiffy.

Haha, i was wondering who would notice the tiller pilot anchor, there is a latch behind the wood, but its not very sucure, so heavy things end up on top of it to hold it in. Hooky, I know, I'm working on a long term setup.

Re: Videos : Sailing Vancouver Islands West Coast

I was fighting shy of drilling yet another hole in the cockpit

But I have a cunning plan involving a spring clamp and a bit of wood

I shall experiment a bit

Islander-glad you were able to get it fixed! We're in Grappler Inlet tonight (stealing wifi from someone). Good run out the strait (long day, pulled the hook at 0400 and dropped it at 1620).

Looks familiar, John!....

Must have been an all day chug, I was watching the lighthouse stations all day.. pretty calm.

When we did that run in 2006 it was similar, but we saw nothing between Sooke and Cape Beale, 0400 to 1700...(Victoria harbour to Bamfield)

Glad you hear you're 'fixed', Islander!!

Nice long run John and great photo, wish I was out there with you. Not sure if your heading up as far as Nootka Sound, Quatsino Sound or Esperanza Inlet and beyond but if you run into mechanical or any other issues or need something picked up from the semi-civilized world, get a hold of me and I can likely help you out...no problem. Keep the updates coming

Re: Videos : Sailing Vancouver Islands West Coast

Thanks for the offer Bilge, hopefully won't need help, but reassuring to know you've got my back!
If Islander doesn't mind I'll post a few pics in this thread since he's doing such a great job with video.
Here's Grappler Inlet which is a snug little bay next to Bamfield. There must have been a dozen eagles fishing the skinny little channel into Grappler. There was a black bear turning over rocks at low tide this morning on the beach at the left of the first pic.

Sunrise over Vancouver Island yesterday on the way out here.

Effingham Bay, Broken Group. A little wet today (2"?)

How am I sending emails from here you ask? Well, we stopped in Victoria and got this nifty little wifi device from Telus. Bilgewater told us about it and it's nothing short of amazing (Thanks Steve!). Fast internet, cheap (sort of), and coverage in places (like here) that you would never expect it. PM me if you want details.

Re: Videos : Sailing Vancouver Islands West Coast

The Broken Islands have a distinct look to them.

I heading around the Island on July 8. I should be in Barkley Sound about the 19th/20th.

I have one of those Telus thingies. They actually work at the mouth of Quatsino Sound, but not in Winter Harbour.
