Jack- we were anchored at Nettle Is. in the bay by the floating Ranger house. Glad you liked the pic, Laurie took it.

I like Nettle Island. It is a little deep but totally protected.

Re: Videos : Sailing Vancouver Islands West Coast

We met up with Lilo's crew at Hot Springs Cove, what a wonderful family! We met them on the board walk to the hot springs, they were going to and we were coming back from a soak. We then had a chance for a talk while sitting on the dock. Their two girls (sorry, with my bad hearing I didn't get their names) are great, they even liked Buster (dog) and surprisingly, he liked them. We hope to bump into them again somewhere. We motored up to Hesquiet Hbr and anchored in Rae Basin (outer basin) and spent about three hours trying to find the trail to Annie's Garden. After climbing really steep hills and bushwacking through thick brush and walking the entire beach looking we had to give up in defeat. It wasn't all in vain though, we met a nice couple on a ketch from Nanaimo who were coming south (SV Tradewind Seeker), and had a nice sail back to the hot springs. We are back in Ucluelet tonight after spending a night at West White Pine Cove and getting showers at Ahousat (dump). The trip south from Tofino was a lot better than going the other way. Note to Lilo: we fought current going south on the flood tide so maybe Dreamspeaker is correct about riding the ebb south from Barkley.
Here's a pic from Adventure Cove near Tofino, Capt. Gray wintered here and built a sloop from the timber they harvested on shore and a shot of Lilo at the Hot Springs dock and the "hot" springs.

Re: Videos : Sailing Vancouver Islands West Coast

Ron- the weather has been 50/50, about what you'd expect out here this time of year, no complaints.
Bilge- is it safe to go between the fish farms that are a couple hundred yards offshore and shore? Not that it's that hard to go around them, just curious about how they're anchored (Clayoquot area).

It's usually very deep under the farm. There are lines running horizontally from the system to the big yellow can buoys and then they go down at a steep angle to shore anchors or cement blocks on the seabed. In most cases it is quite deep there and the lines drop from the can buoys at a pretty steep angle. Generally speaking it shouldn't be a problem at all. Just don't go between the system and the yellow can buoys. Nice photos John and thanks for the update.

Re: Videos : Sailing Vancouver Islands West Coast

Thanks for the kind words John, and excellent pics! Thanks for sharing. It was nice to meet you two as well. We're in Ucluelet too, in the boat basin doing much needed provisioning, showers and laundry. Headed out tomorrow for Effingham Island for a night or two.

We've been having a wonderful time! (Even when it's been terrible ) As John said, weathers been not to bad considering the time of year, it's actually not been as cold or wet as I had feared it might be. (Or heating arrangement is not the greatest).

Hope to share more pics and video soon, but haven't had any luck uploading anything the few times we have had access. Oh well, no worries, they'll be along when we get home.
