Look at the adventure I'm NOT having . I sold my Catalina 36 and the new owner (Colombian citizen) took it down to Cuba on his way south to Colombia. Pictures in his blog. Even though I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere (for one more week), I'm happy to see the ol' girl is doing what she was built to do! It's also kind of cool seeing 'my' boat in Cuba.
I'M ASHAMED OF YOU!!:hothead Didn't you warn this poor fellow that if he took a Catalina 36 off shore that it would either explode or melt right out from under him? It's true, ask almost anyone on Sailnet. :laugher
Mike
PS - Yeah, pretty cool seeing your boat in Cuba, looks pretty nice there.
He hasn't made Columbia just yet. Keep an eye on this thread; when the boat does end up sinking after exposure to BLUE WATER I'll be sure to post an update!! :laugher
And believe me, if work wasn't keeping me off the water, you can bet I'd have volunteered to go!
Thanks for sharing, that's very cool. One day I'll be heading to the same destination.
Do you know if they are taking the boat down there for good? or are they coming back with it?
Creedence623. For the record;..... it's spelled Colombia, not Columbia , that's a different place.
I noticed that too. The boat always had a lean to port, but that looks pretty extreme. I haven't spoken to the new owner to ask, but it may be the camera angle. The standing rigging is brand new, so there's a chance they were playing with the rig tension.
sevseasail, good catch on the Colombia thing. I can't believe I had never taken time to notice the difference.
Captainmeme, The teak was a few coats of Cetol Light with a coat of gloss. A lot easier than 7 coats of varnish (easy being of critical importance given that brightwork has a life span of just under 37 mintues in Florida).
Looks like they are passing between Haiti and Cuba now.
