NY Trash?

Over the weekend there was a significant amount of medical waste washing up around Long Beach Island here in NJ which stemmed from you guessed it.. New Yorks overflowing sewers. Anyone else get affected besides that area? it included syringes and red biohazard bags.

Re: NY Trash?

Chef, Fresh killls Landfill was closed in 2001. It was temporarily re-opened as a staging area after 9/11. It's now going to be a park.

There was no significant rainfall this past week that would have caused sewers to overflow. Biomedical waste shouldn't be in the sewers, regardless. This sounds like either an intentional or accidental dumping. I hope they trace it, and fine the culprits.

Re: NY Trash?

Otter? That story is from PHILLY TV not NY. With a NJ correspondent, talking about beaches south of Barnegat, and overflows on the NJ coast, not New York.

NY didn't get any massive rains. Don't blame it on us, it is your own trash, according to your own state sources.

Not if your Bloomberg. Hey what the heck, the greatest city in America, home of the free. Let's outlaw concealed weapon permits, transfats & soon to be coming, the extra large for $.99.

Seeing how the people of our lovely city are such sheep, do you think we're afraid of dumping a little bio-waste????

Sorry, the devil made me do it......

Most people know New Jersey is dominated by the two metroploitian atareas of NY and Philly with no real TV stations of their own. The beaches are frequented by the people from the suburbs of the two metropolisis with the dividing line approx Long beach Island south are Philly people...root for Philly sprts and the people north of LBI are NYers...root for NY teams.

In past years when going to LI Sound up the east River I had to post a lookput on the bow as their were usually large objects in tghe water in NY Bay and certainly the East River ( pinic tables and such). Many of these were accidently dropped in the water at the trash transfer station next to Rikers which is still operational, but the problem has lessened considerably. In the past when there has been large problems with medical wastes it as been identified with trash from NYC. At one time it was Great Kills landfill. There are a great many dump sites off of NJ where NYC took their trash. Not sure if they still do that by barge or not. Philly and NJ cities always put tgheir in a landfill. Perhaps this s why people attrivute the trash along the shore (right or wrong() floating from NYC.
