Sounds like the ER was applying "one size fits all" triage. In general no food no drink is only done when there's a chance they'll want to administer a general anesthetic. There's no call for it otherwise. Might they need to knock you out, maybe. They still could have give you ice chips to suck on (the water is absorbed pretty quickly) or hard candies, to keep up a little blood sugar and prevent dehydration.
But ERs generally need a little prompting to deal with patients as individuals, rather than "one size fits all". It is always a good idea, if you can, to bring along someone else as a patient advocate. Simply because they're a step further removed and they can sometimes request, or do, little things that can help.

That which has been once seen, cannot be unseen...

OUCH!!!

Dude - I wish you a speedy, and complete recovery. But, damn, I wish I hadn't seen that.

Take it slow, and have someone else tend the sheets.

I feel your pain.. did a similar thing a year or so back at work as well. No tendons cut, though, thankfully. But the finger still feels 'funny' most of the time 18 months later.

Re: My seaon is screwed GRUESOME IMAGE

THE DOCTOR i wanted made the call that he felt general anesthetic was a strong possibility and even after he was working on it for 90 minutes it could have gone either way if he was not happy with the repiar

I REALLY cant complain as got what i wanted within 6 hours which was a repiar by the best person

Did it cut any nerves, how's the feeling in your thumb? It took a couple years for feeling to fully come back in my pinky after a good cut.

Remember, all the internal sutures count twice, maybe even three times, when giving the stitch-count, particularly after a beer or two.
I got a badly ripped finger (not THAT bad) when I was 15. I was working at a game farm (big Zoo) and part of my duties involved tending a pair of juvenile lions - walking them on leashes to show the tourists. The male was very mellow - like a big dog but the female was getting to be too much to handle. The only way to dominate her was to swat her across the snout. One day she started gnawing on my knee so I went to swat her and she pulled her head back & snarled. My hand went through her mouth and opened up the underside of my middle finger from end to end.

The worst part of the experience? No scar to brag about.

"Hey, how'd you get that big scar on your finger? Oh that? - Lion bite."
