Garmin 72 GPS Issue

My venerable Garmin 72 has all of a sudden refused to provide tide information. Whenever I call up "Tides" information from the "Celestial" menu, I get a message stating "Inaccurate Information".

I have not yet contacted the manufacturer, as I have found this group to be generally more responsive, and I am hoping that someone else has already solved this problem.

Thanks!

Re: Garmin 72 GPS Issue

I believe the firmware ran out of that abilty on the older 72s

Mine is a 2010 unit and between friends we have units that go back 10 some odd years and there are many changes over that time

Re: Garmin 72 GPS Issue

Well, I did buy it used on ebay about 5 or 6 years ago. Maybe there's a firmware update. I'll report back.

Re: Garmin 72 GPS Issue

According to Elvis (yes, that is is name) at the Garmin customer service center, as of 2012, the 72 can no longer receive tide information. The firmware/software cannot be updated. So back to the old ways....

Re: Garmin 72 GPS Issue

Well, I'm in the same situation. My GPS 72 has been a reliable companion ever since they first came out.
Tide status is quite important to me, as access to my mooring in the Broadlill river is dependent on high tide, give or take 1 hr max. Hate to spring for another gps, but perhaps a combo fish finder might make sense.
Anyone have any preferences?
Dick

Take a good look at the Lowrance HDS-7. You'll like what you see.

Good Luck,
