who's out on the top of the Chesapeake?

If you are out on the bay above the Annapolis bridge anyone up for an impromptu meet sometime in the next few days, maybe Worton Creek?...or other suggestions welcome.

Putting faces and boats to sailnet names would be a treat!

Bummer, You just missed the recent the big SailNet meet up at White Rocks. That said, through out the summer individual SailNet members will often announce smaller raft-ups around the Bay and so with any luck you should be able to get a group together.

Re: who's out on the top of the Chesapeake?

Gotta' work this weekend, but normally you can find me cruising somewhere south of Havre de Grace, MD in the bay's upper reaches. Most of the days off I have are weekdays, but on rare occasions I get a weekend free. Look for a broad-a$$ed Morgan 33 O.I. with the name "Saturday's Child" on the stern. Then look for an old man at the helm in the shade of the Bimini with an ice-cold, green-coconut Margaretta in his hand - that'll be me!

Cheers,

Gary

The white rocks gathering was my working weekend, but the schedule is clear for a bit now.
Gary, are you playing someplace near the water?

Yes, I'll be playing at Owens Marina in Perryville on Sunday from 6 till 10 p.m.. But that's if the weather cooperates. I'll be poolside under a tent, which I hope keeps the area cool enough to make it tolerable. Weatherman is calling for temperatures near or above 100 degrees, similar humidity numbers, and a 30-percent chance of showers. Don't need the heat or showers. Havre de Grace is scheduled to have their fireworks display that night as well. Should be lots of fun.

On the mooring here opposite Charlestown. The weather is getting " interesting". Many big red blobs coming this way.

WOW! The sky is turning coal black to the west, and the temperature dropped somewhere around 20 degrees in the past hour. Something nasty on the radar. I assume the Charlestown you are talking about is in the North East River's upper reaches across from Bay Boat Works.

Be safe out there,

Gary

I had to work, so the boat stayed at the dock.

Re: who's out on the top of the Chesapeake?

A couple days late, but here is my storm report......
That was IMPRESSIVE.
Heard the forecast and decided to stay on the mooring overnight; saw all the big red blobs on radar just before all hell broke loose here. I thought the winds were 50 mph or more, told later they topped 70. Lightning came from the west and sat over the bay striking all around for at least half an hour, the boat spinning on the mooring the whole time. Several vessels dragged moorings through the field.
At one point I was heeled over, laying back against the head door for what seemed like way too long a time.
My inflatable dink, with an old 2 hp suzuki (17 pound engine) was briefly airborne above the stern rail, just floating on the wind in the lightning flashes. It didn't flip but got thougherly saturated. Pulled the plug and poured the water and gas out, Starter fluid, some Sea Foam and new gas and all is well.
Friends out on a cruise to the Sassafras got caught badly, lost gear and gained much gray hair and worry lines.
One boat tied where it should not have been got beat up very badly; others moved through the field apparently without touching anything. Power was out here until Sunday morning but we put generators on the freezer and kitchen fridge. Beer coolers did get a bit warm but now all is well.
I was so shell shocked by the lightning i decided to sail a few extra days...
