Re: Favorite active sailing blogs?

Our favourite blog is The Kingdom of Baikal
Its about a young couple from New Zealand, who sailed through the pacific to Australia and then went to remote Papua New Guinea, through Indonesia (without going in a rally) and then explored Malaysia and Thailand. There arent too many young people sailing.

Re: Favorite active sailing blogs?

Oooh, new blogs to follow -- thanks for asking the question! I'm also a fan of Bettie del Mar and Zero to Cruising (whom we had the pleasure of Hash-ing with in Grenada). Other blogs I love are s/v Skylark, a beautifully-written and thoughtful blog by our friends Ed and Elizabeth, and Sundowner Sails Again, by Tate and Dani who are building their own dream and hoping to leave soon, but are informative and entertaining in the meantime. We also like to keep up with our friends Birgit and Christian of Pitufa as they make their way west to Central America and through the canal.

We've also been told our blog is somewhat entertaining, if you don't mind occasional snivelling and frequent off-color comments...

Re: Favorite active sailing blogs?

Fun thread - and great to see our blog, Controlled Jibe, thrown out there as well (thanks You, Me and the D!). Here's a few more that we follow, with a bias towards the Sea of Cortez and Mexico since that's our current neck of the woods:
1) www.PacificSailors.com
2) yodersafloat | traveling and eating with Steve & Lulu
3) S.V. Nyon

Re: Favorite active sailing blogs?

Neat to see our blog (Sundowner Sails Again) mentioned as well. We aren't out cruising yet, but have our mini-adventures around here and along the coast.

Tate and I have been reading sailing blogs for many years now and it's interesting to watch the "phases" or "groups" of people setting off to sail go by. One day we'll be part of that group. Jan 1 2015 everything willing!

A few of my favs for people actually out there (more on our Friends Page):
Bettie Del Mar Vlad, Attila and a Hedgehog left Galveston and are now in Panama for a few months.

SV Libertalia German Phil sails a 50 footer (i think) with various young (and hot) crew over off of Spain. Really neat blog here.

Picaroon Heather and Pip leave the Rat race of DC and head south to the Carib.

SV Estrellita Livia and Carol sailed from Canada down to Baja then across to the South Pacific.

Pacific Sailors Verena and Mike set sail and are now down in the Sea of Cortez, looking to buy a bigger boat and cruise farther

SV Nyon Kyra and Rick set sail from up north and now down on the West Coast of Mexico.

SV Wondertime They have 2 kids but I wouldn't consider it to be a parenting blog. They sailed from WA to Baja and are now in the South Pacific. She is a good writer.

and of course Controlled Jibe above as they are right there in the action getting ready.
Idpnd and polaris2.11 like this.

Oh man - I can't believe we forgot about Art of Hookie! Of course, we're constantly rooting for Alan every day and waiting for him to sail down here to Mexico and enjoy a cold cerveza with us!
