Indonesia cruising

Hi
I am working in Indo as a Padi dive instructor at the moment and its the dream of dreams to start on the boats. I already have the competant crew and stcw cert.

Does anybody have any info for me on which docks to be walking, what are the most favoured routes to follow and just any other general info would be great.

thanks alot
Darryn Jessup

Re: Indonesia cruising

The Sail Indonesia rally is starting on Saturday from Darwin and there about 130 boats heading to either Kupang or Saumlaki and then generally heading toward Singapore and then into Malaysia. You can check with the Sail Indonesia website to get an idea of when the boats will be in which places. In almost every case the boats will be anchoring out rather than going to a marina, although Bali may be an exception. We are only staying the rally until there in late September so have not looked at the later in any detail.

Chances are that crew needs are likely to be small since the distances being travelled are short (overnights or less) but it can't hurt to ask around at dinghy landings and if you can find a bar (in Indonesia away from main tourist areas?) where the cruisers might meet. Good luck.

Have crew for South Africa, sorry. Most of the people going to South Africa, a lot more boats than in the past because no one is going the Red Sea route these days, will be leaving from further north after spending a season or more in Thailand or Malaysia. Check the crewing sites for possible berths.

Since your not too far from Bali, you might wander over to the yachtclub/marina and see what boats are around. You never know.

We anchored at Gili Air a few years back.....
