Lightbulb Good So. Calif. Sail/Yacht Clubs ?

I am new to sailing in southern California and am looking at sailing/yacht clubs in the Los Angeles, Long Beach, Newport Beach areas. I need a place to store and launch my small (16'-20') sailboat (which I don't have yet.) I am also looking for some club racing and racing lessons. I am not much interested in club social life, just the sailing.

I have looked at Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, but that is the only one so far. What are the best clubs for small boat sailing in this area?

Richard

do yourself a favor...

Avoid California Sailing Academy in Marina del Rey AT ALL COSTS. They are the most unprofessional operation I have seen. Plus they have (3) boats that are so neglected they shouldn't be sailed.
Marina Sailing I have heard is a well run biz and I have chartered from them twice. I can't attest to their classes but I have heard they are fine.

For small boat racing ABYC is best choice - start in their Lido 14 fleet

How about boat rentals? Do any clubs or marinas between LA and Newport Beach rent sailboats? Do you have to join the club to rent?

Small boat sailors almost universally LOVE Long Beach. I'd be looking there if I were you.

ABYC's Lido 14 fleet has a handful of Lidos for charter-rent.
