Osprey is the most solid probably but might be a bit generic compared to sparrow. Saying the word sparrow feels better then osprey on the tongue has a slightly better ring to it but i like what osprey evokes a lot more its a glorious eagle compared to a raving little maniac that poops on my varnishwork. Have to say i have a softspot for that bird and have named him Jibs thought of naming the boat jibs. I guess Im wondering i I should go for cuteness or somrthing Im not embarassed to say on the radio...

Re: Help me decide on a name

I've always liked two word names for boats. I guess it is a southern thing. So "Sparrow" seems a little sparse to me. You don't say where you hail from, but "Sparrow of Annapolis", if appropriate, has a nice sound that would be easy to say on the radio.
However, a Pearson 10M is more macho and aggressive race oriented boat and deserves a more bold sounding name like "Osprey", but osprey does not combine well with place names.
Its hard to not overthink this.

Re: Help me decide on a name

I like Sparrow. In the right font, that's will look great on the boat. It's easy to say as well (for when people ask you what your boats name is).

Amazing Grace likes this.

Re: Help me decide on a name

I love "Sparrow." If it were me, I'd have the word on the transom and silhouettes of some sparrows hanging out, perched on the boot stripe.

I like sparrow. A good omen, having that bird hanging out. Sounds like arrow. I knew a little sloop named sparrow, alway's liked it.

Re: Help me decide on a name

How about this:

The surname Pearson is of Scottish origin. The traditional language of Scotland is Gaelic.

Translate sparrow into Gaelic and you have: Pardal.

I agree. It does seem like an omen. If I had a certain pleasant bird hanging around my cockpit, I might have done the same thing.
