I alway's thought if I didn't like the name of a boat I would figure out how to say it other languages rather than change the name, What is the name now if you don't mind me asking, It might suck in english and sound cool in japanese.

I went with sparrow and put NY NY as my hailing port figured it was a good name that will never embarrass me and cuts through the static on the radio

Re: Help me decide on a name

Naming your boat is like getting a tatoo...it has to mean something to you. You don't just pick one out of a book. I really don't understand why you would ask a forum to name your boat and also none of your names are original. Give it more thought before you go through the boat naming ceremony.

The sparrow hanging in the cockpit gives it great meaning,.........afraid to ask what canadian seamonkey means to you, hope you didn't get it tatoo'd.

Re: Help me decide on a name

Osprey is great, but, so many boats hold that name.

I like Sparrow (or Pardal). You want a name that will not have to be repeated 10 times and then spelled and then given up on....

My (new to me) boat is named LAGNIAPPE.... not for long. I sailed it from Annapolis to Block Island and it was torture contacting marinas, harbor masters, pump outs, etc.

XYZ marina this is S/V Lagniappe
Vessel hailing Xyz marina, could you repeat the name of your vessel?

S/V Lanorp, we have assigned you slip B. Spell the name of your Vessel please.

Langoppie, can you repeat that spelling please.

Yes, perfect, thanks, S/V Lagnip standing by on 9.

I have receipts from Block Island where the Harbormaster spelled it differently on each days receipt.

Thankfully I never had to contact the USCG in an emergency.

Re: Help me decide on a name

Hmm. Toss up between Sparrow and Lullaby. Sounds like you have a special tie to Lullaby. There's a saying in NZ..."up at sparrow's fart"...meaning an early riser. If that helps. Or not. :-)

Definitely between one of the the two.

I actually Like Lagniappe. You know it is a name that meant something to the previous owner.

Maybe the boat was a gift to him/her, or had Cajun roots.

I would have modified the spelling to make it easier though for other people to pronounce. Lan-yap or something like that.
