Re: Help me decide on a name

Wife thought my white-decked, yellow-hulled Venture 17 looked like a cooked egg and suggested "sunny side up" which means she's turned turtle and it sounds silly. "Over Easy" sounds like a boat name. It stuck!

OP made a good choice with sparrow. No pronunciation help or long story necessary, but there is a good story behind it. When looking at boats in marinas I don't google the translated-from-some-obscure-language names to figure out it means "boat" when sung in Traditional Luxembourg Fart Chant, I just think "what the hell is a Langniappe?!" and move on to the next one. But what I think shouldn't matter to anyone else, but if you do care about what irrelevant strangers think - pick something easily understood by those without a Ph.D in Linguistics.

If you don't care what irrelevant strangers think, then name it what means the most to you, even if it's in Navajo and you sail out of Belize.

Re: Help me decide on a name

I guess I am just different... I always look up stuff I don't know the meaning of... I would remember all the unique boat names at the marina. (and their meanings) The common forgettable names... well those would be forgotten...

I would name a sailboat Segelboot... And I would paint a seagull in a pair of boots on the bow.

If you would ever travel south on the ICW, you would be spelling that name phoneticaly for every bridge opening. UGH!

Re: Help me decide on a name

To me,

Sparrow implies a fast nimble boat
Osprey implies a strong dominant boat
Mermaid Tale implies a calm peaceful boat
Lullaby implies an anchored boat
Which type of boater are you? I think Sparrow was an excellent choice.

Then again, by my user name you can see I tend toward the silly names :P
