Alberg 30 with wheel steering

I have been looking at Alberg 30's. This one is on the hard in Wilmongton NC. It has wheel steering. I have never seen that on an A30. Also what is the propeller thing on the side of hull. Some kind of knot meter?

Re: Alberg 30 with wheel steering

Looks like a knot meter maybe.

Hopefully that boat is free for hauling away?

Re: Alberg 30 with wheel steering

I have seen another Alberg with wheel steering. Frankly, the boat seems too small for it, but I could be wrong. If I had a 30'er sans an outrageous displacement, I think I'd opt for a tiller.

Plenty of Cape Dory 30's out there with wheel steering. That cockpit floor is bound to be shot though. Can I ask: what are they asking for an A30 that looks like that? Have you been looking at CD's as well?

Alberg 30 with wheel steering

He didn't give me a price. He wanted me
To make an offer that would include him dropping it in the water. Which wasn't safe. I walked. It was beyond my knowledge and energy level to work on this boat

Good call... That would be on helluva project. Time is better spent sailing than fixing. Plenty of cheap boats out there that can sail but still need alot of TLC.

Re: Alberg 30 with wheel steering

I've seen a few A30's with wheel steering and it really isn't necessary. It takes away from usable space in the cockpit and it also deadens the feel of the rudder.

My A35 has a wheel as well that I will eventually convert back to a tiller.

The propeller is definitely an old knot meter.

Alberg 30 with wheel steering

Heres some more pics. The boats in Wilmington, NC. Probably sell for less then $2000. But I just can't do it. I am not educated enough on rigging and fiberglass work. Nor do I have the energy.

Lol..

Those through hulls are a felony. My god..

I'm with Snueman - too small for a wheel.

Wheels are for girls anyway... ::runs cackling out of forum::
