Re: So, Who Are You?

Wow mike inLA ! cool yes the Government is so screwed up! I work in the Technology area today, wow how things keep changing! I dont know why people try to figure out our world we live in it doesn't take much to do! If your not already rich then you have to make it your self ! Nothing was handed to me, i finished my Bachelors degree in 2010 now i look back and say WHY did i do that i am just more in debt now! I am 42 i feel lost but FOUND when i am SAILING! Nothing matters then, i sail fast its so different to pass people with the same wind and it doesn't matter what they are in Pontoon boat, fishing boats, 19ft flying Scotts, bigger monos! What ever it is. As long as the government stays out of our waters and leaves us sailor alone! then we all should be happy! I do not understand this GAS **** i drive a HEMI truck to pull my boat around and i should be able to do so! I also know we could be driving a battery truck if government would stop the things that will really help the Economy! Think of SEMI Trucks never filling up for GAS! that is awesome the technology is there. But its all hidden! Every piece of technology is being used today in out Amusement Parks no one knows it!

Re: So, Who Are You?

What Boat do you have or Want? : Catalina 25

How long have you been sailing? : Off & on for 30 years or so

What do you do or did to get your boat? : My wife & I kayaked by a Capri 18 (my old boat) about 3 years ago; we got to talking... I had another C18 within 3 months, a C25 about 2 years later.

Where you sail or live? : Live in southern NH; sail out of Portsmouth Harbor

You sail alone? : Up until now, now yes. It is clear that a larger boat on saltwater attracts more guests than a Capri 18 on a small lake, so that is changing.

Goals? : Turn my neglected C25 into a serviceable sailboat in the next 2 years; along the way I will compile the punch list to turn it into a cruising boat. Then I look at that list vs. a C27 that is already 'cruise ready'.

Interests? : Carpentry, hiking, biking, kayaking, reading (when there's time)

Favorite food? : Too many to list; (home made crab cakes last night)

Music? : Just about anything but metal and electronic; I wouldn't select a C&W station, but I wouldn't bitch if someone else did.

What Pisses you OFF? : People who believe a religious text compiled over 2,000 years ago should be used to run a modern governement.

Re: So, Who Are You?

What Boat do you have or Want? :

Have? Nothing. Want? Anything with sails that stays afloat more than 30 minutes I have no idea what my first boat will be. I'd love something between 22 and 27 LOA, but who knows what the future will bring!

How long have you been sailing? :

Zero. Zero experience behind the sails. I've been out on boats, but never as anything more than a passenger. I've lined up a sailing course for next season so hopefully that gets me off on the right foot. Full training and dinghy rentals for $500/year -- should be fun!

What do you do or did to get your boat? :

Probably going to have to scrimp and save and it'll be a few years before I can afford what I want, but I'm in no hurry.

Where you sail or live? :

Southern Ontario, just below Toronto. Basically want to explore all of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence -- would love to visit the maritimes!

You sail alone? :

Everyone I know is uncomfortable on a boat so probably.

Goals? :

To not drown. Seriously though, to become proficient in single handing a small sailboat. Just to have fun. I'd love to sail the Atlantic one day, but that's just not realistic right now. I'll settle for making my way out to Nova Scotia or something, though

Interests? :

Hockey, photography. If I can keep my boat stocked with fresh B&W film then I will have just about everything I need. Not much I can do about the hockey in such a confined space, though.

Favorite food? :

Oh, lots. Sushi maybe? A nice filet mignon sounds good though.

Music? :

Depends entirely on the mood. From classical to electronic to rock to trip hop to hip hop. There's entirely too much good music to pick a favourite

What Pisses you OFF? :

That I'm not typing this from inside a boat right now >:|

Or maybe that I'm 33 and feel like I should have started getting into this a good ten years ago when I lived in Florida!

Re: So, Who Are You?

Good luck with you course, Marty. Think about joining a local sailing club and becoming a crew member for racing/cruising. You can learn a bunch and get a better feel for what you may wish to purchase in the future.

Re: So, Who Are You?

Thanks! This is the club I'm thinking about joining: westwoodsailing.ca. I've had it recommended to me by someone I know so hopefully it'll pan out. In the meantime I'm absorbing absolutely everything I can regarding sailing

"Modern Government! Ha Ha Creeping socialism is modern??
And what do 78% of the citizens of our country think of our modern government??
