My top three things to keep on me/close at hand:

1. A sharp knife.
2. >50' of spare line (small stuff) in my pocket.
3. A small flashlight and/or headlamp with a red filter.

Now that would be silly.

It's for the forge so I can replace stuff that breaks...like the mast...or the peat-burning inboard engine.

It goes without saying that my honey would be there, so she's not one of the three.
1) a broken compass (so my plans fail)
2) devil may care attitude (so I don't care my plans fail)
3) a translation book for all languages so I can ask where I am when I get there

Aside from everything already on the boat (PFDs, binoculars, charts, other safety gear, water, a hat, towels, etc…) and what’s always on me (wallet, keys and BlackBerry), I take:

1) Sunglasses with croakies
2) A first mate (wife, friend, or dog)
3) Old boat shoes
