I waved to boater this weekend! Did you? its just a friendly jester as i sail close to them sometimes because of the wind and c rowdiness on the water!

Where I come from we wave to every car we meet on the highway. Its no different on the water.

You know this all depends on how many fingers that the person you are waving at sees!!
They might not think that you are being friendly at all....

I always wave, and this Sunday, someone frantically waved back using both arms. I eased over to the other boat and quickly discovered his mainsail was jammed in the track about halfway up the mast. I dropped my sails, looked at the track and discovered that one of the slides was badly distorted and jammed. I handed him a can of WD-40 with an extended nozzle tube, told him to climb on the boom and see if he could spray the defective slide, which he did. A couple tugs on the halyard and the slide was free enough to allow the sail to be lowered all the way. He thanked me, I raised the sails and continued my trip north.

Sometimes that wave is more than a gesture of friendship,

well normally if u have any couth, you wait until someone looks over at you and that they aren't to far away from ya! Then its cool. But if you stand up bend over show ur A ss and be a moron, then you might have issues!

Yeah....in rural areas it's that way too here....folks just wave as they pass. And out on the water, everyone waves. It's just how it's done, people being nice and all. Only a grumpy old hermit arsehole wouldn't wave back.
