Delaware River September 1st

The Delaware River May 5 thread was getting a bit out of date, so new thread.

Rhythmdoctor initiated and Ulladh will be sailing from Essington at about 2:00pm on September 1st for Delaware City, we will be at Crabby Dicks that evening.

On Sunday I will be either going to Chesapeake Bay or Delaware Bay.

All Delaware River/Bay and Chesapeake Bay sailnet members welcome or anyone passing through.

The City maintains a free dock right near Crabby Dick's, but no overnight tie-ups are allowed. A short walk away is the Delaware City Marina, which is very nice and well run with clean bathrooms, nice showers, and full service chandlery. I think it's $2 a foot, plus a little for electric.

Re: Delaware River September 1st

Time for a bump!

Ulladh - I hope your cruise went well this past Sun-Tue. WindAlert shows that you may have had the wind at your back going both ways on the Delaware. Aside from the morning showers, it sounds like you had good conditions.

I'm still hopeful about heading to Delaware City on Sat-Sun and have made reservations at the marina, though my daughter coming home from college could cause a last-minute cancellation. I think a 2pm departure is cutting the daylight too close, so we may leave around noon and fight the waning tide for a couple hours.

Is anyone else still in for some or all of this trip?

Re: Delaware River September 1st

Did not get to go sailing last weekend. I had to get stuff together for a project meeting on Monday and will have another one on Monday 3rd, so this will be just a Saturday and Sunday trip for me. Last year was so much better for sailing, but not so good for cash flow.

I may also depart at noon on Saturday against the last of the flood tide, arrive at Delaware City between 5:00 and 6:00 PM.

You may want to check out Crabby Dicks as a possible gig, they frequently have live bands.
There is an anchorage area between the C&D north jetty and the entrance to Delaware City shore side of the refinery channel, a bit exposed but I have seen sailboats anchored there.

Re: Delaware River September 1st

Unfortunately, I'm not going to make this one. Someone booked me for the 1st, and private parties pay high dollars. The folks that hired me are anticipating the arrival of the hurricane from down south, therefore they decided to have a hurricane party.

Crabby Dicks is a long drive from my home, nearly 2 hours, so it's out of driving range for a music job. And, nite clubs, restaurants and bars are lousy payers for musicians.

Maybe next year,

Gary

Re: Delaware River September 1st

Where is Crabby Dicks? We will becoming up the Delaware tomorrow from Cape May and in the C&D Canal probably about 2-4 in the afternoon. Is it in Chesapeake City?

Ah I see it's in Delaware City. We will be heading through the canal so we won't be there then.

Dave, Schaeffer's Canal House has reopened in Chesapeake City. Might be worth a try. I am told that the new ownership also owns a nice restaurant in Pennsylvania, so maybe they know what they are doing.
