The opposite line of an out haul?

Hi folks, I have been sailing alone too long. I have a furling sail, the out haul line is in the clamp cleat all nice and labeled. The line that goes to the spindle that must be released (or you are just going to pull and the main sail will just never come out) is not labeled, so I tell the kids ok, release the red line, or keep tension on the red line. But for the life of me, I can not remember its true nautical name. I know that as soon as I hear it, I am going to dope slap my forehead, but its time, I stop referring to the lines by color. It will not help the kids when they sail on other boats. Thanks all.

Sounds like the furling line if you're referring to the headsail. By "spindle", I assume you mean the furler drum. If it's the mainsail you're talking about, then perhaps you mean the downhaul or cunningham? Though neither would necessarily prevent the main from being raised.

I call this line the "In-haul" so as not to confuse it with the jib furling line. Guess one could call it the main furling line.

I've labeled mine the in-haul. Mainly because it fits on the label better than "main furling line"

Don't you just pull on the Jib "sheets" to haul out the furling jib...??

Then the rewind line would be a "jib furling" line...??

Beleive the OP is describing a mainsail furling system. The outhaul pulls the clew of the main out. He is asking the name of the line that furls the mainsail back up.
