Spring is best from March to May as northers are much less frequent.
As a side note, don't make too much of this trip. People plan for the longest time to "cross the stream" and it is a lot about nothing. Honestly, most the time you do not even know you are in the GS. It is a very short trip, there are always other boats, and given the accuracy of 24-48 weather it is really not much different then going out in your home waters and sailing for 12 hours.

Don't get me wrong, the GS can be dangerous with strong north winds and sea set but with good weather (which is most the time) you will sail across and then ask yourself "so what is all the talk about. That was nothing!)

Have a great trip. Bahama's, especially far islands, (other then Georgetown) rock!!!
