Navigation charts for Lake Lanier

I'm looking for a source of charts for Lake Lanier in GA.
I've found the Core of Engineers maps online (here), but they are all in .PDF format

I would love to not only have a set of paper charts, so I'm looking for a set of raster charts to use with one of the Android navigation Apps like Memory Map.

Maybe the .PDF can files be converted somehow?

Any help (or a little education about how to use the .PDF maps) will be appreciated.

Pete

Re: Navigation charts for Lake Lanier

If you find them please share. I looked a while back and gave up, could not find anything other than the lame chart everybody around the lake has, the one from the corp of eng.
I'm no computer expert but doubt the PDF. files can be converted; that's the main reason to have a PDF, so it cannot be altered.

Good luck, and let us know if you find something.

Miss lake Lanier....used to sail our S2 there! We never had anything but the chart they sell at west marine. The good thing about that lake is all that deep water! We are on the Chesapeake now and there are soo many shallow areas to watch out for!

Unfortunately the lake is now down around 10 feet, so there are quite a bit more shallow areas than usual. You may want to check out Navionics. I purchased their HD inland lakes map for my Epad and it seems pretty accurate. They have charts for both Ipad and Android.

Thanks Doc

I'll have look.

Lanier sure is a pretty sailing venue, but we see such large level swings annually that a map will certainly help identifying the shallow areas.

Some Garmin products can be purchased with inland lake charts pre-loaded but don't know if it would be any better than the charts you are using know.

Re: Navigation charts for Lake Lanier

On advice from the Doc - I looked at the Navionics app. For $10 I've got a basic charting package for my phone with acceptable charts (size and detail) for Lanier. It also appears that all US lakes are included

They also have an HD package for $5 more, but although they state that is optimized and intended for tablets, my Google Nexus 7 is not yet supported.

If the wind and weather cooperates, I'll go try this package this weekend - I'll report back

Pete

Re: Navigation charts for Lake Lanier

I had a similar issue with a document i needed to view on my iphone. It would probably be wise to just purchase what afrinus was speaking of but I found a free app that would support my word file. Possibly there is something out their you can use. Just download a bunch of free apps and see what works for you. just my ten cents.

This is an old thread but wanted to try and get in touch with some of you Lake Lanier sailors. I plan to start sailing there in the near future, would like to connect with some of you. Regards.
