Re: I hate water fleas

As an owner of 2 jet skis I have a bit of experience with them. I too am not a fan of most people who are on jetskis. A lot of them don't actually have much time on them and really don't have a grasp of how dangerous they can be.

I don't know what the law is in California but in Maryland before renting one you have to read a booklet on the safety, watch a video and pass a short test. Most of which emphasizes the idea of keeping a distance from other jetskiers and not following in a line.

Having said that I have to respectfully disagree with you Palmetto. From the video it doesn't even look like he slowed down before hitting her. He wasn't paying attention. When you get on a jetski, any kind of boat, or behind the wheel of a car, you have to act in a responsible manner. Also he served 12 days not a year. It was a tragic death but negligent homicide is negligent homicide. He was the overtaking vessel. Hopefully this will make someone somewhere think a bit more about what they are doing while on one.

Two years ago here in the Chesapeake bay there was an accident involving two kids with one death and one seriously injured. I personally felt the parents should have been held liable because both kids were under the legal age for operating a jet ski (16 in Maryland). A lot of people disagreed with me but the parents not only put the children at risk but every other boater. I don't think any one would think it was ok to give the keys to a hot rod to an 11-12 year old.

Sometimes a prosecution can send a valid message. I think this is one of them.

Course, if this had been on the roads, and he'd been driving a car he could have just said he didn't see her and wouldn't have done any time at all.
