Re: Small boat voyaging

Here is a great video of a guy crossing the Atlantic in a contessa 26:

And here is the same guy going from Antigua in the Caribbean to New York city:

Enjoy

Re: Small boat voyaging

Some people even push it further...have you guys heard of April fool?
Hugo Vihlen crossed the Atlantic from Casablanca, Africa to Miami, Florida in a 6' sailboat!

He wrote a book about it, it's called April fool.

And here is a picture of the boat:

Re: Small boat voyaging

check out vega1860 on youtube...they sail all over the pacific on an Albin Vega 27. They are on this website as well. Looking at last years Ba-ha ha looks like someone cruised in on a Dana 24....

check out Sailfar.net. A website for small boats cruising long distances.

the above are just a few examples. A few I have met were a very young couple last year cruising from Rhode Island to Dominican Republic on a Bristol 27.....Another couple I met in Oriental and follow just returned to US from Azores on a Pearson Triton....They were from Maine.

many many small cruisers on small boats.....

Re: Small boat voyaging

You can also check out Small Craft Advisor magazine. They regularly feature cruising on small boats. There's also a recurring article about a couple sailing around South America on a 21' Sea Pearl (Adventures of Steve, Ginny, and Thurston).

I was just about to mention vega1860 or S/V Lealea. I've nearly finished watching all of their videos. They're a great view into what life is really like on a passage as told the day it is happening, instead of in hindsight.

I have a sauna on my boat, therefore I win.

Re: Small boat voyaging

Years ago my father brought home an interesting fellow named Tristan Jones. He entertained us with hours of sailing adventure tales. He stayed with us for a week or so. I remember one where he was trapped in the ice for a long time. It's all foggy now. I was in high-school then.

Re: Small boat voyaging

James Baldwin (Atom Voyages - Home) outfits small boats for long voyages. He has some great stories from his voyages and a lot of great how-to articles on his site.

Tristan Jones has some great books, and if I remember right, he lost a leg at some point in his life but he keep single handing his sailboat!

A few years ago I met a guy whos family personally knew Bernard Moitessier.
