Just bought a 94 mac,s looking at rigging the boom block & tackle, book shows it attached to eye in middle of step of cocpit to cabin, why would attachment be there?
It's a fairly common place for the mainsheet to be attached. I don't like it either. You could move it to the floor or stern possibly but it may require reinforcing and/or changing the attachment location on the boom.
It is the right place for a good angle to the boom. It also puts the sheet and traveler right in front of you if you have a tiller... not so much if you have a wheel. Just don't tack when your lunch is being passed through the hatch
