"Can I Go With this weekend..?"

I am so lucky...

Heard that question from my wife as I was planning my week out eariler...

She had gone out on the boat in June a time or two when I first got 'er.. then had some work/schooling commitments on the weekends thru July and August so I was going out solo and occasionaly with one of "the guys"...

Finally got to take her out again end of August, and did the "unthinkable"...During a tack...I "yelled at her" to loosen the sheet... Bad move...she was done sailing and ready to go home (other than we were 12 miles from shore)... But being the smooth operator (suckup) I am, was able to convince her to stay in the boat for the duration....

I apologized and everything, but I really thought I blew it with my bestest buddy ever, I mean I can sail the boat solo so there really was no excuse for raising my voice when she was trying to help... I think she forgave me...

So when she asked me if she could go this weekend...I knew she really does like the sailing/anchoring/crusing aspect of boat ownership (as well as my company)

How cool is that...? A wife that actually "likes/wants to go" sailing...

I am so lucky...

Amen to that. We guys don't get too many second chances, so use it and have a blast with your "bestest."

Congratulations!

My wife loves to come down to the boat and relax; she would prefer that it never leave the mooring.

Re: "Can I Go With this weekend..?"

I was lucky, I met my wife when she crewed on my race boat! For me the problem is finding a way to get out on the boat without her once in a while! It is nice to get out with "the Guys" sometimes!

Remember, it's not yelling, it is " communicating loudly" or "conveying a sense of urgency"!

Re: "Can I Go With this weekend..?"

My wife and Carbon's would likely get along. She loves sitting at the marina.

My proudest moment sailing was backing into a transient slip in Annapolis while an entire restaurant dock was watching. I got us in the slip fine, but the piling we had to get the bow line around was about 10 ft away. After multiple attempts by the wife and even pulling out of the slip to snag the piling as we backed past it, she finally looped it. All in all probably took about 15 minutes and I didn’t raise my voice once.

Just told my wife the difference. She said nice try, but it still sounds like yelling to her.

I am very lucky my finance likes sailing as much as she does. She even suggested we have a nautical themed wedding!

Re: "Can I Go With this weekend..?"

Its all about patienence and positive experiences. My wife like the boat and loves anchoring every weeken in a new cove on the Chessie. She enjoys the sail there and takes the helm 1/4 of the time at least now. She not fond of heavy winds, but not afarid of them as she ws in the beginning. It is our time top be togther without the distractions of home, work, or family.

Gradually I have introduced her to crusining the summer to where we take a long 3 week trip up the coast to the LI Sound and New England. She actively participates in "running" the boat. As she has slowly gained confidence in herself and he skills she likes it more and more.

Even though I am a type A it is the one place that wont work so patience and steps is the work here. Positive experiences lead to more positive experiences.
