I'm so allergic to some cats that my eyes are itchy just reading this thread! But I did share my house with two of them (mother and daughter), as they were a package deal with the wife (now ex). The mother was about 1 when I met my ex, and that cat lived a good 16 years. I have friends who have had cats for over 20.

The ZTC blog just did a post about their cat. They adopted one off another boat. Seems to have worked for them.

If you are really stuck, I would take it if you can get it to NY. I'm 30 miles from the PA line on Rt 84.

Indoor cats: up to 18 yrs.
Outdoor cats: less than 5 yrs.

I know that thought. I don't think it's a good thought.
You just give Velcro the best life you can give him for as long as you can.
Hard to imagine anything more noble than that.

Depends on your definition of outdoors methinks.

My last cat was outdoors during the day and in at night, did a bit of sailing as well ... she very nearly made it to 20.
