Pt. Conception California timing ideas.

Hello all,
Well ive read and studied alot around going around Pt. Conception but always like new input. I am in Morro Bay right now and just sailed and motor sailed from Charleston Oregon heading south to mexico. My boat is a 1973 Morgan O/I 33', 39hp perkins diesel that pushes the boat between 4.5 and 5.5 kts. and have all the saftey gear. My question is that i have heard and read that the best time to go around the point is early morning between 3am and 9am. When plotting my route at 4kts (always less then i should be able to motor just in case) i have decided to go down to Avila in San Liuos Obispo wait for a good window and take off around 4-6pm to get around the point in the early am between 3-6 am. The only fear factor is NOAA lies. I have been thrashed a few times by listening to it. Whats everyones thoughts on my plan or do you have any ideas?

Re: Pt. Conception California timing ideas.

Heading south is easier than going north. This leg shouldn’t be much worse than what you already experienced on your trip down from Oregon. No matter how windy and rough it is, once you turn the corner at Arguillo, the wind shuts down unless there is a Santana blowing (one of the few reasons to hold up and wait for a window going south bound). Once you get to the first oil derrick, you will be sailing in light airs or most likely motoring. Are you going on the Ha Ha?
