Bridge tenders
Just wanted to send along the link below, some of you have probably seen in sail magazine but it was a nice article and we might just learn something or at least remember our proper radio edict.
My brother who captains the Becky Thatcher on the Ct river - it is part of the Essex Steam train and river boat cruise's got a chance to go up and talk with the bridge tender on the East Haddam swing bridge. Was very impressed with the complexity of the operations - even got to be up there for an opening.
So just a big thanks to all the bridge tenders and the work that you do. And dont forget to thank them after you pass thru.

Awesome read! We always enjoy getting to talk with them on the radio when we go through on SC ICW, and now we are better informed on how to communicate. They always have to ask how we spell "Ubiquitous" :-)

Re: Bridge tenders
Good read with the focus on keeping the vehicular traffic moving and opening as little as possible. Not like the RR bridges in CT, which stay open for boat traffic unless there's a train coming.
