Happy Birthday to a very young man. Cannot wait until you get to Miami. Let me know when you get here. We can raise a glass or two.

So Jon,
When will you be catching up to Gary?
Hi Caleb...

Doubtful I'll catch Gary this winter, if I do make it south, I'd peel off for the Bahamas, anyway...

As usual, it will be a last minute decision, but at this point the odds favor my staying home this year. I'm hoping to get away for a longer cruise next summer instead, and to head south would complicate that a bit...

Sounds like the weather this winter might be a bit wild, with the jet stream wobbling up and down, producing some real extremes of weather... If I do stay home, perhaps what I'll do is just get away for 6 weeks or so in January and February, head down the Chesapeake (I've never explored the bay on my own boat) and explore the Sounds in NC for awhile... That can be some great sailing down there in the winter, and you've got it pretty much to yourself...

Happy birthday. I will consider myself very fortunate to still be undertaking such trips at 72. Unfortunately it seems by then many sailors have traded in the sails for stink pots. At least they are still on the water.

Right behind you Gary. Should be leaving Oriental Sun. the 21st. Doubt we'll catch you though unless you make some stops along the way. At least sailing alone you don't have to worry about mutiny.

Re: I'm still alive...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARY. Wish we were headed down with you. We are both in our late 60's. Hope to meet up some day in the future as we may be headed to the Keys soon. Just waiting for a couple of things to come together here at home. Be Safe and if you make it to Marathon try to meet up with Capt. Charmaine Smith Ladd on S/V "September Sea". Very nice and she is a wealth of info on the Keys.
