Happy B-day! By the time you read this you'll be somewhere between Cape Fear and Charleston, I guess. Waccamaw River in that stretch probably gets my vote for the prettiest stretch of the waterway ... enjoy!

Re: I'm still alive...

I received a call from Gary this morning and at that time he was just passing Surf City Bridge in NC.

He sounded really content.

Happy Bday Gary. Keep us posted on your progress and enjoy the solitude. I just might have to toast to you tonight. A great excuse to have a drink or two. Fair winds and safe anchorage.

Re: I'm still alive...

About 30 miles to South Carolina, which I hope the weather allows me to make tomorrow. Tied up at the Dockside Marina and Restaurant south of Wilmington, NC for the night, met some really nice folks that I hope to follow south in the morning.

Most of the time is spent motoring, or motor/sailing on the jib when there has been wind and a straight channel that's more than 100 feet wide - which is rare down here. Gets pretty hairy when a 65-foot motor-yacht suddenly appears on your stern and there's barely enough room for two boats to safely pass. I'm still making about 45 miles a day, but not every day because of bridge schedules.

Oh well, at least it's a bit warmer,

Gary
