DIY pilothouses

I hear a lot about retrofitted pilothouses, both good and bad, does anyone have any pics of pilothouse sailboats where the pilothouse was added on by their owners?

Here's one on a homebuilt plywood 20 footer, actually doesnt look too bad:

Re: DIY pilothouses

If she built that, can I adopt her ?

If you missed it, take a look at this - they call it a hard dodger but it's damn near a pilothouse and looks great.

Re: DIY pilothouses

Adding a hard dodger is one thing, adding a 'pilothouse' c/w inside steering is something else altogether..

Re: DIY pilothouses

However you build a pilothouse ,it will feel like sheer luxury, after sailing in an open cockpit, a hairbrained way of sailing ,and a throwback from the days when sailors went to sea against their will.

Re: DIY pilothouses

i was wondering this after today after seeing a sailboat with a wood structure on the back like a radar bar but it was center of the cockpit and had like a roof on it werid but look liked it worked good for lines solar pannels and such. i was wondering about this for a future project a pilot house would be a good idea. but how could i do it if i don't have side decks my deck is on top of the cabin no walk ways on the side of the cabin. or how could i make a hard doger?

Re: DIY pilothouses

Ron- it was fiberglass, I think, might have been some duct tape in there too, and you are correct about the garbage bags. It was... interesting.
On a serious note, I have seen a couple of PH's that were added that really did look good, mostly on older wooden sailboats. The Cape George 36 PH always looked kind of added on in my mind too, but in a good way.
