Urgent-ish 45 lb. CQR on A Pacific Seacraft 31?

Signing off on a Pacific Seacraft 31 tomorrow. Do any PSC 31 owners use a 45#
CQR on their bow roller? I know the 35lb. works fine next to a Bruce. I have trusted my 45lb CQR for 30 yrs. and would very much like to use it. Thanks!

Congrats on (Almost) pullin the trigger on the ps31. There is no doubt that is a great boat. I just y-wurld them up. Love the Crealock design. I saw one with a tiller and yawl rig! And built in NC(from there).
You are going to just see if the 45#er fits. It is probably to big for the boat anyway and the 35 it there for a reason. Great storm anchor maybe.
My other question is- 30 years old. How is the joint hinge. My old 45# is a bit sloppy.

Re: Urgent-ish 45 lb. CQR on A Pacific Seacraft 31?

I'm currently selling my 1977-78 Fisher Pilothouse Motor Sailer (doing a trade for the 31 for sales tax savings) to get the PSC 31.

Surprisingly, my 30+ year old CQR 45 lb. looks perfect except for some extremely minor rock dents/chips in the plow's edge. I've been forced to anchor
out in 45kts. for several days with willawas of more up near Johnstone Strait in
British Columbia. Several 30 kt.+ blows over the years. The shank is straight
etc. That's why it's the only main anchor for me. I sleep (well...snooze) pretty well.

We lived aboard and sailed a PSC Mariah for 17+ years. (In fact we just found her online finally!!!
She's "Sarana" who has a great blog and we're SO glad she got to do the adventure we had wanted to. The "new" 31 looks very similar down below and as Sarana was our lst home when we got married that's kinda cool and full circle-ish.

I can't get down to the boat again for several days (documentation) so until the boat's in the water, I can't/won't lug that 45lb.er up a 20 ft. ladder. The windlass if that helps, by the way, is a Muir Cougar Horizontal Electric.
Cheers.

45 sounds like too much to me. I would think that 35 would be enough.

I think you would have more luck if you post this in Pacific Seacraft - SailNet Community or ask a moderator to move it.

FWIW - we have a 45 lb Manson Supreme on the bow of your PS34. Fits no problem.

I would not let the anchor fit stop you buying the boat. If the anchor won't fit, there are many other models of anchor out there that would work as well or better than your anchor. Provided that you do your research as to what to buy, you won't have any worries with inadequate ground tackle. Compared to the purchase price of a boat, an anchor is cheap, buy the boat, not the ability to use a specific anchor. Not to mention, you are looking at a well designed boat.

Re: Urgent-ish 45 lb. CQR on A Pacific Seacraft 31?

I'll definitely use a CQR for our region (Pacific N.W.) and I know the 35 will fit fine. I have a chance to possibly trade my 45 for a 35 but will hold off until I know if the 45 will work on the PSC 31's bow roller. The opportunity to trade will only be around for a few days and would rather not lug my 45lb.er up the ladder until the title clears and she's ours. (Not sure I'd even be "allowed" to in the yard).

I'd be happy to have this thread moved to the P.S.C. section if a moderator
would be willing to move it. Not sure how to make that request.
Thanks.
