0.5 ft tsunami in BC. Doesn't sound that bad, though I have no concept of how different a 1/2 foot tsunami wave is from a regular one.

The information above was included in a message that stated that the tsunami advisory had been increased to include Oregon and northern California. Why, would you widen the advisory area when you're getting data like 0.2ft in Seattle?

BTW, if you live aboard and don't yet have your phone set up for tsunami alerts from NOAA or the Canadian equivalent, you might want to think about doing so.

G'night all!

I would hear sirens if anything was happening and I don't hear anything.

We have three rules;
No screaming.
No bleeding on the sails.
No slobbering on the charts.

Re: !!!tsunami warning for british columbia!!!

Jeez, Dog Ship... you were up early!!

Latest news locally everythings downgraded. According to an SFU geologist this is a very interesting scenario. Typically on the north coast it's a San-Andreas type fault and mainly horizontal plate movement is expected. The vertical movement required to generate tsunamis is not a normal part of the pattern (unlike what might be expected on the south coast area, apparently.. though the Alaskan quake in the 60s certainly sent a wave down here at that time)

Anyhow we've been lucky.. 7.7 is not trifling, there are no reports of any injuries and the tsunami concerns are fading by the hour.

Re: !!!tsunami warning for british columbia!!!

Wow, very interesting. I guess the warning system doesn't have a lot of advance notice on these things. At least, from halfway across the Continent it doesn't seem like there's been much talk about it. Hope everyone is ok.

If you are standing in a flooded road and a truck makes a 6 in wave, you get a little wetter.
If you are standing in a flooded road and a 6 in tsunami comes in, you would be now standing in a 1 ft RIVER watching cars float by.
Comparing water level before and after the initial wave, looks to me to be 6-10 in.
