For those of us who have to haul out...
We hauled out last week. Yesterday we finished winterizing and have told the marina to go ahead and shrink-wrap.
It certainly brings about a sense of regret: the season's over; no sailing for the next six-or-so-months etc. but (and i hesitate to admit it) it also brings about a bit of a relief.
I mean I have had an awesome (in the truest sense of the word) season - some of the best sailing I've ever done, but, with the haul-out comes a bit of gladness.
Throughout the year my whole focus was on the boat: on sailing etc. Now that the boat's out I can focus on other things in my life.
I feel a bit of guilt over this. I also don't.
How do you feel?
(I have had a couple of glasses of wine before writing this and it has taken me at least twice as long to write. Please forgive any spelling or grammatical errors)
Re: For those of us who have to haul out...
You've nailed it Welshman! I have both of those feelings every fall for the same reasons. Sad that the season is over, but also some relief that I can take care of things I've neglected for a few months.
I suspect once I've retired there will be more time for the other things during the summer and consequently less relief at the end of the season, but by then maybe I'll be able to extend my season a little.
