New Storm

Looks like a nor'easter is headed up along the coast next week. The same European tracking model that did so well in predicting Sandy's path is predicting a hit on the NJ coastline again. This is really bad news for the cleanup and repair efforts that are going on. The weakened dune structure on the barrier islands will probably be very vulnerable to ocean storms for a long time to come. This looks like a fairly powerful storm.

Re: New Storm

Update this morning: It looks like the storm surge from this system will be nearly as bad as that of Sandy. That can't be good news for the already eroded dune structure along the NJ/NY shoreline.Dr. Jeff Masters' WunderBlog : Nor'easter coming Wednesday and Thursday | Weather Underground

Re: New Storm

One weather guy on TV said this will be 1/50th what Sandy was. I doubt that was any sort of precision calculation but I took it to mean it won't be nearly as bad. Fingers crossed!

45 mph winds for 12 hours...two high tides. Lots more bayside flooding and beach ersosion as well as intrusion through the gaps. Overun...probably nothing left to overrun.

The place where the sea broke through and removed a bunch of houses and the east end of the Mantaloking bridge will certainly be at high risk. It looks like the elevation right across the island decreased by quite a few feet.

Can you move your sailboat so I can park my car?

I just saw an interview with a lady from Staten Island. She was standing in front of her house and they were asking her about the new storm. Behind her, "parked" in the street was three sailboats, with their masts leaning against the power lines, and two power boats. Oh yeah, there were a couple of cars parked in the street too.
