Thumbs up 7.8 mph?

I finally got to sail my Irwin. The GPS reported a top speed of 7.8 mph. I did have the sails about 80% tight, but reefed on the main. I admit, I can't say what the current was doing, but it was a nice ride.

Working 600 miles from my boat has meant a long wait and mostly working on her, but going out in good wind, and getting good results, means the work is paying off.

Guessing, I say that's probably about right. I did pass another, what appeared to be an Ericson (early or mid '70s) 34...under full sail, but I put my boom traverler full to windward..and went on by. The wind as reported was 12kts with 15kts gusts out of the SSE....I was heading due East in the middle of the Corpus Christi Bay.
