Bavaria?

Hi/ kind of a nebulous question but I don't know much about Bavarias and have the opportunity to see a CC Bavaria '38. I am looking to move up from a caliber '28 to a 38-41-ish mainly for bay cruising but also for a year sailing with the family (3 kids). I had been concentrating on Beneteau- I'm definitely interested in comfort/maximized space over speed. Someone suggested Bavaria (on this forum!) but I don't know much. Quality? Built well? Sail well? I thought they were good quality but heard someone mention they had a rep of getting wet cores and having water issues. Any insight? Thanks in advance.

Re: Bavaria?

Check out the "Interesting Sailboats" thread as Bavaria has been discussed there quite a bit. Paulo, the Master and Commander of that thread used to have one and had pretty positive things to say in general.

Interesting Sailboats

Edit: should note that his wasn't the model you are asking about specifically.

Re: Bavaria?

I have looked into Bavaria quite extensively in Annapolis and BIV. It was a Bavaria 40, I prefer the Bavaria more than Jeanneaue 409. The workmanship and material seem a notch better.

Bavaria is a popular charter boat, you can easily charter one in Annapolis or in BVI. Good luck.
