I took the same basic route as Capt. Aaron , which took 3 days and 4 hours to arrive at Puerto Morelos .

I do that alot because we have a house in Guanaja Honduras now and I sail down there skipping the Mexican and Belize Coast all together. Sail due south from the west end of Cuba and cross at what ever point you want. Just get 30 or 40 miles south of what point you want to hit on the Penninsula. If I was doing it I'd sail the extra day south and cross through the south end Of the Barrier reef and clear into Punt Gorda Belize in stead of Belize City, but that's just me

It looks like sailing south after West of Cuba makes sense. We are heading to Placencia, it is the same latitude as Guanaja Honduras, we will miss the northern flow of the gulf stream

Thanks for your help!

Glad I could help. If you draw a Line 180 deg. due south from the west point of Cuba. You are out of the Gulf stream, shipping lane's, and in the Trades. It's a beam reach for 2 day's and your parrellel with the south end of the Barrier Reef. Then you run straight down wind to it and clear in at P.G. or Placencia, you can slowly cut that line so you are abotu 60 mile out from the reef when you make that turn. I cleard at Placenia once but I had to pay more to bring the customs agent over from the litle air port across the bay. It's a fun trip to make, short and sweet, with a lot of adventure and reward's, what with the view of the Cuban mountains. the reach down the West Caribbean, the run toward the southern Belizean jungle, and ending in Placencia's protected anchorage. Best of luck to ya

Hey Captain, your inputs were extremely helpful and reassuring. I owe you a dinner and all the beer you can drink. If you are around Key West or Boot Key this Monday or Tuesday, it will be my pleasure to have dinner with you. If we can't meet this time, there will be the next time. My offer does not expire.

Thank you so much.
