For the days I can't take the big boat out

Happy Thanksgiving folks.

Some days I just don't have the time to take the big boat (Ben 36.7 out) but still want a sailing fix before dinner....

Anyone have experience sailing a remote control sailboat off the back of your boat or from the pontoon? Looking at something like this...

Hobbico AquaCraft Paradise FRP 26" RTR RC Sailboat - B01** - eHobbies

Not looking to break the bank - Any advice / suggestions / reviews would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have been looking for one myself. Hobbyking is the cheapest. I have purchased from them, they are reputable and they will take returns. I have only bought plances from them, but its been good.

I've recently got into building and racing model yachts; great fun and very intense. My US12 (LOA: 46") with removable rig (60") easily fits in the quarter berth of my Ericson 26. Here's a photo from the dock on the Saco River ME:

We self taught ourselves into flying RC airplanes. Quite challenging, but I think RC sailboats would be fairly easy as long as there is a way to retrieve it if you get boxed in or the wind dies. Looks like there are powered boats available if that happens which might save a long walk.

Remote Control (RC) Sailboats

We found the bigger the plane the easier it was to fly. Don't know if that would be true of boats? Sounds like fun.

Here is a link to some RC racing stuff. Lester Gilbert's Radio Sailing
These RC guys are usually ahead of the curve with advancements because they can change things out quickly. Even throw there boat into a wind tunnel and gather data.
Maybe I'll make a copy of my boat and do some small scale testing.... Hmm.

Excellent point.. They do show good knowledge of the concepts. Quite interesting web site. Scaling is an interesting subject all in itself.

On the other hand they put significant constraints on sail trim due to the limited lines controlling the sails. So some things are not applicable to our full size boats.

BTW.. Websites are fascinating.. :)
